Fear of Changing Your Job
Sometimes people are in jobs they hate. Yet they stay. Why is this?
We’ve all heard the same excuses a thousand times before
- No one is hiring now
- What if I find a new job and it doesn’t work out?
- I won’t find a job as good as this one with the benefits
- I’m working full time and don’t have a chance to followup during the work week
- I would love to move to XYZ but I don’t know where to start
- I don’t know the first thing about so I have to stick to what I know
and so on.
There are millions of jobs out there right now and you can create your own from scratch.
Today I’ll talk about a few people I’ve encountered who have done just that.
GET OVER YOURSELF!
We’ll explore
- Why people look for new jobs
- Where to find the jobs
- How to figure out what you want to do
- Planning a move to another city
I also have an announcement that AskAdria will be taking a break from the weekly QnA to regroup.
Why people look for a new job
- They hate their boss
- They hate what they do
- They hate their coworkers
- They don’t feel they are properly compensated
- They want to switch careers
Where to find jobs
- Careerbuilder.com
- Monster.com
- Salary.com
- Each state has job and salary database
- Networking events

Glad to hear you're loving your move to SF! I'm with you – I can't imagine doing anything for 15 years, especially not working for the same company! I've been self employed almost my whole life and I'm pretty sure I could never work for someone. But if I did, the job itself would have to be extremely rewarding. Take Adria's advice – if you are in a toxic job – get out!
Don't let the press convince you that there aren't job opportunities out there – employers are always looking for motivated, energetic, creative, and hard-working people. You just have to learn how to sell yourself. In fact, on the subject of selling, I am convinced that sales is one of the best skills you could have. I'm not talking about being a used car salesman – I'm talking about just knowing how to communicate well enough to influence others. If you don't have that skill, I suggest you start learning it.
I like the 20 minute format Adria! Take care!
