Car Maintenance Tips from the Pros
I interviewed Matt Litynski of Bona Bros Automotive Services today to find out what mechanics recommend and how to find a good repair shop. Matt is also a technical advisor at Dunwoody college. He described common maintenenace items, how you can save time and money by using an auto mechanic shop you trust and a little known federal law giving you the right to choose who does your warranty work.
- Ongoing maintenance – early detection, find a good mechanic, relationship based
- Trust - interview shops, not only because they are close by or you have a coupon
- Tire pressure once a month
- Change your windshield wipers once a year at Thanksgiving
- Oil change every 3,000 miles or every three months, whichever comes first
- Winter tires are a good thing
- Magnus Moss Warranty Act of 1975 – Federal law, prohibits auto manufacturers from voiding warranty coverage based on warranty services being provided someone other than the manufacturer or selling facility. As long as the business is licenced, they can perform warranty work.
