What the heck is Tweetdeck and is that the same as TweetMeme?
This was a recent question I got and it reminded me that to many people, Twitter is just a big blob of “something”.

Today we’ll be talking about tools and utilities that help you save time when using Twitter.
What Twitter applications do you use?
What are your favorites and which ones do you wish would crawl away and die?
Twitter Applications
When people start off using Twitter, they sign up at the website and start…well, “Tweeting” right from there. Eventually, they want more control or flexibility and that’s where Twitter clients come in handy. They are also helpful if you want to Tweet from your mobile device although you can still go directly to Twitter’s website page. Twitter clients make Tweeting easier! According to a post at Techcrunch, they listed the 21 top Twitter clients where they include services that talk to Twitter in addition to stand alone Twitter apps. We’ll cover a few of the well known ones today.
TweetDeck – Twitter client for your Windows and Mac OSX desktop
Wikipedia – TweetDeck is an Adobe AIR desktop Twitter application. Like other Twitter applications it interfaces with the Twitter API to allow users to send and receive tweets and view profiles. According to TwitStat, it is the most popular Twitter desktop application.[2] It is compatible with Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X, with possible manual installation to GNU/Linux.

Thanks,
“meam” sounds so weird to me. It’s like for SATA hard drives I like to say “Say-tah” but it sounds like most people say “Sah-tah”.

@Adria, SATA is an acronym so technically you can say it however you want. meme is an actual word ;)

Tyler,
ahh, and knowing is half the battle! What techie word or acronym did you have trouble using? A lot of folks pronounce the antivirus, McAfee differently.
not quite sure what you meant by Tweetdeck is available as a manual install for Linux?
Having installed on both Windows & Linux the install process was identical as is the overall operation.
I have to say that, without using a Twitter client such as Tweetdeck (nice one Mr. Dodsworth!) for my laptop (Linux) & Gravity (for the Nokia N95 – which is what this is being written on), i’d have probably found Twitter far too cumbersome to continue using & jacked it in ages ago.

Phillip,
I’m not sure what you mean by “manual install”. I may have said Tweetdeck may be available for Linux but I haven’t looked into it. Sometimes apps are available for Mac but not for Linux, sometimes both so I don’t want to assume there is a package available.
So you think Twitter through the web is too clunky? Interesting…
